SSI Professional Ratings

SSI Dive Guide

This program is an introduction to the world of Dive Professionals. As a Dive Guide you will be qualified to lead certified divers on a variety of scuba diving adventures. Dive Guides are required to work through an active SSI Dive Centre and, when necessary, with an active SSI Instructor.

As a certified SSI Dive Guide you can:

  • Give underwater tours to certified scuba divers

  • Teach Snorkel Diving after passing the Snorkel Instructor Module

  • Issue Snorkel Diver certifications

Prerequisites:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Have a Total Diving System of professional type and quality

  • Have a current medical exam for scuba diving not older than 1 year and signed by a licensed medical practitioner

  • Hold an Advanced Open Water Diver certification or equivalent

  • Logged no less than 40 open water dives totalling 25 hours or more

  • Have logged significant experience in the following Specialty programs: Navigation, Night/Limited Visibility, Deep Diving, and Boat Diving

Cost:

The SSI Dive Guide course is $900

 

SSI Divemaster

Dive Guide + Science of Diving equals Divemaster. Divemasters can also lead and guide certified divers, as well as assist with both classroom and pool under direct supervision of an SSI Instructor.

As a certified Divemaster you can:

  • Do all Dive Guide activities

  • Assist active SSI Instructors in academics, pool and open water training under direct supervision

Prerequisites:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Have a Total Diving System of professional type and quality

  • Have a current medical exam for scuba diving not older than 1 year and signed by a licensed medical practitioner

  • Be certified as an active Dive Guide level or equivalent

  • Logged no less than 50 open water dives totalling 32 hours or more

Cost:

The SSI Divemaster course is $1085, or continuing from SSI Dive Guide $285

 

SSI DiveCon (Dive Control Specialist)

Divemaster + Dive Control Specialist equals Assistant Instructor. As a DCS you can teach lecture and pool classes with indirect supervision. By assisting an active SSI Instructor with open water training the DCS can collect valuable training experience, which is the best possible preparation for an Instructor Training Course (ITC)

As a certified DiveCon you can:

  • Lead and guide certified divers

  • Assist SSI Instructors in the classroom, pool and open water

  • Teach skills in the classroom and pool under indirect supervision of an SSI Instructor (except emergency skills)

  • Teach the SSI Scuba Skills Update, Snorkeling and Try Scuba (pool only) programs

Prerequisites:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Have a Total Diving System of professional type and quality

  • Have a current medical exam for scuba diving not older than 1 year and signed by a licensed medical practitioner

  • Be certified as an active Divemaster or equivalent

  • Logged no less than 60 open water dives totalling 40 hours or more

Cost:

The SSI DiveCon course is $1485 or continuing from SSI Divemaster $400
